Today all the post-graduate students in our college went to Le Meridian for a seminar on India's vision for 2020' Strangely enough everyone who gave a guest lecture on the topic spoke of India and China beating America head on and moving up the economic ladder in the coming years. Everyone already knows the core issues that India as a 'developing' nation has to deal with. The very basic problems being lack of proper infrastructure, functional illiteracy and IT sector not being able to generate the amount and kind of jobs that it needs to. The MD of Bombay Dyeing gave us an example of how we can easily find apples from New Zealand easily available in the market, but apples from our very own Jammu and Kashmir is virtually impossible to get newhere and that is partly due to the fact that the cost of importing apples from NZ turns out to be cheaper than transporting fruits from J and K!!

The CEO Of Zensar Techonologies made a very important point about BPO's and Call Centers springing up all over the place and how it actually is proving to be a sortof a hurdle for India's vision. He said that no doubt Call Centers are providing employment to lakhs of people but in a few years down the line the talent pool tht India would be left is "marketers with an accent" He said that if India only focuses on the Service sector, we will be put on the back foot and in order to be one on one with the competition amongst other countries we need to be 'LEADERS' in all sectors of the economy.
